Our Story

Our restaurant originated in Portales New Mexico in 1949 by J.W. and Aileen McCarty.  They remained in Portales operating the original Mac's Steak in the Rough, until they decided to relocate to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1959.  

Our family operated and expanded the business to five very successful restaurants.  We moved back to Portales in 1995 with the family business. 

We are now in our 4th generation of leadership and going strong as McCarty's Cafe.
